TAKING a snapshot of Oregon's first 10 days of 2011 would have you believe that you'd stumbled into some kind of big wave surfing Nirvana.

South Reef and Nelscott have been on the receiving end of a brutal pasting as the North Pacific does its best to shake itself free from the little girl's clutches (the irritating La Nina).

"The first week of 2011 was an amazing start with surf ranging from 10 to 20ft." Said Eric Akiskalian of towsurfer.com who along with a crew of under-the-radar locals went out and scored it big and quiet.

"Having spent two weeks in Santa Barbara for Christmas without any surf, this made it real easy to come back to Oregon and post up at the Lincoln City Inn for a week of freezing cold conditions with giant clean surf."

Image 6 of the 9 ... lots of grey triangles in the foreground? Two bottom left, 1 bottom right ... a school of pointers just waiting for a wipeout?

Interesting to know that Elephant Seals are around. I lived and surfed in Oregon and while I saw two species of Sea Lions I never heard of elephant seals being seen while surfing. Impressive pictures.

I don't think he's stressing about making it over that wave. I'd be more worried about what's waiting on the other side.
