Learn to Surf, advanced surf coaching, hire sit on kayaks and surf equipment or buy all your surfing equipment from our Surf shop.

We have been providing Surf lessons and equipment hire since 2009, and we now have our online surf shop open as well. We have a strong green ethos in both our surf shop and surf academy.

Our Surf academy offers beginner surf lessons and Intermediate/Advanced to competition level surf courses in Borth and Ynyslas on the beautiful mid Wales coastline.

Our instructors are fully qualified and accredited in all activities. We have many years personal and professional experience and have passionately dedicated our lives to the adventure activities we teach.

Your safety is first and foremost. Aged 8 to 80 everyone welcome.

We can accommodate all types of parties, Individuals, Corporate Groups, Hen and Stag Groups, Birthday Parties, Youth and School Groups.
We currently run school surf lessons for Ysgol Uwchradd Tywyn, Penglais School Aberystwyth, Ysgol Penweddig Aberystwyth, Ysgol Ardudyw Harlech, Ysgol Bro Ddyfi Machynlleth and Ysgol Uwchradd Tregaron.

We are mid Wales’ only Surfing GB ACADEMY level approved school.

We also have a surfboard, wetsuit equipment and clothing shop run by real surfers with many years experience surfing all over the world and working within the industry.

We believe getting people the correct equipment is first and foremost.
Please don’t hesitate to contact us for advice and any questions you may have on anything to do with surfing, wetsuits and equipment, or the ocean and beach environment.

We select the best products for beginners through to advanced and competition level surfers.
We are always looking for the most sustainable and environmentally friendly products and actively push our suppliers to make greener and cleaner ranges.
Unfortunately not all products fit this category but we always recommend products that are hard wearing and have a long life expectancy.

LEARN TO SURF

Beginner surf lessons at Borth and Ynyslas with the AberAdventures Surf Academy. Mid Wales’ only Surfing GB performance level approved surf school.

Our instructors each have individual experience of over 15 years, surfing along the mid Wales coastline and all over the world. Learn to surf safely, as our instructors are Surf Life Saving Association fully qualified Beach Lifeguards and Surfing GB qualified coaches.

All equipment is included in the beginner lesson cost; including soft foam boards approved by Surfing GB ,warm winter wetsuit and wetsuit boots.

We can accommodate groups from 1 - 20 people. No experience is necessary; minimum requirements are an ability to swim 50m in open water and an age of 8 plus. The safest and best introduction to surfing.

With over 20 years personal surfing experience, at home and all over the world, our Surfing GB, performance level approved surf school can structure intermediate/advanced surf lessons or programs right up to competition level.

To begin the process for improving your surfing send us a message with an honest assessment of your ability, what you are struggling with and what skills you would like to learn. Whatever your level we can help you improve.

Paddle out techniques, duck dive etc
Positioning, take off, pop up
Generating speed             
Core Balance in manoeuvres
Bottom and top turns

Our basic criteria for an intermediate lesson is;

High consistency of catching white water waves, getting to your feet and riding.
Beginning to venture ‘out back’ past the white water to where the waves are first breaking.
Starting to go for unbroken waves with or without success.

SCHOOLS AND YOUTH GROUPS

Here at AberAdventures we offer surf lesson packages, beginner to advanced, tailor made for schools and youth groups. In order to make these affordable and accessible to all we offer exclusive special rates.

We are mid Wales' only Surfing GB performance level approved surf school. Our surf instructors are SLSA NARS Beach Lifeguard qualified and Surfing GB qualified instructors. Safety is first and foremost. Groups not only get the best and safest introduction into surfing, but learn all about beach, board and water safety, identifying hazards and basic emergency protocols.

Groups are offered the opportunity to undertake the Junior surfer scheme, an ability graded scheme with 5 different levels to aim for. (Copies are available for you to view.)

We have availability for 10 to 20 students for our 6 session packages. During this time, for those participating in the scheme it is possible for most to achieve levels 1 and 2 and be well on the way to level 3. More advanced packages are also available as our instructors are qualified to coach beginners through to competition level surfers.

We have full liability insurance, risk assessments, NOP,EAP's,  instructor qualifications and full CRB checks available for you to view on request.
We have set packages but tailor made programmes can be arranged.

SURF EQUIPMENT HIRE

When you've had you're first few lessons and feel comfortable in the water with surf equipment, why not hire to practice what you have learned.

We hire soft Surfing GB approved foam boards, warm winter wetsuits, boots and bodyboards. We also have hard boards available to those with more experience.

We are a member of the RNLI Safe surf hire scheme, so there are certain requirements that you must meet before we can allow hire. Contact us for details.

Hire is available for Borth and Ynyslas, offsite hire maybe available. (Contact us with your requirements.)

SIT ON KAYAK HIRE

No surf? No problem. Hire a sit on kayak and see the shore from a different perspective.

Available from Borth on selected days. Perfect for those flat calm days. We operate in Borth corner next to the Lifeboat station on the Lifeguard patrolled section of the beach. Offsite hire also available.
Hire of Kayak, paddle, buoyancy aid and helmet inclusive. Wetsuits extra.
