A sideshow where nubile ladies in tasteful g-strings man nearby traffic intersections protesting "No Jail for Pot!", and where a guy has seriously been playing the Hawaii Five-0 theme song up on the pier for the last six hours straight... and these are the normal ones. Regardless, there were another 76,987 buzzing souls wandering through the twilight Huntington haze right now, looking for a bar, a family, a parking lot attendant, anyone at all, to share their stories about watching the world's best flying all over the place down at the HB pier. And for the rest of us? Hear thee Scottie, doth beam us up!

I feel dirty all over just watching that, like a part of my soul has just slipped away into he ether never to return but to wander infinately through the void with an enternal feeling of shame and disgust. To the Pros signing their souls away id like to rephrase something Frankie Boyle said... " could could have had a great career son if you weren't to bust SUCKING THE DEVILS COCK!!!"

Totally agree with everyone! The pros these days are often just as money hungry as the companies so all have lost sight of why most surfers surf! (Most surfers being those that surfed pre-out-of-control-commercialism, or those that surf cause they grown up on the beach and their family and mates introduce them to it, not the media!). F*ck the all stars and weak media hungry events at sh*t beaches. I've surfed a lot of places around the world, and huntington was one of my lowest points! And f*ck the wigged out bleached haired brand wearing donkey who starts surfing cause he sees an event like this! Not that I'd blame him, wouldn't you? But write of passage for god sake. Blame the commercialised event i say! I hope Hurley and other companies and pros read this and gather that most surfers DON'T approve. Don't get me wrong, pros are lucky and they gotta make a living.... but a few hundred grand PLUS a year is enough to live that lifestyle... whats an extra 50 grand going to do for them if it means degrading the "sport".

wow you guys are so caught up in your own little bubble you can't see the bigger picture! Sure, surf brands make lots of money selling product to your average non-surfer and use the 'cool' image of surfing to do so, but the point the majority of you have missed is that these brands are paying a lot of young groms around the country to go and have fun surfing around the world.. sure it's not as clear cut as I make it sound here but I know for a fact these brands put a lot of money back into the sport even if it's just giving a few t-shirts to a local club event.... you say that the pros have lost sight of what surfing is about (having fun).. how can you qualify this? of course they have fun... for those of you 'soul surfers' who can't see past your self righteousness go buy a hemp shirt, get your totally impractical retro shapes (that pro's helped us evolve from) and bugger off back to bum Donovan. KOOKS

Think they undercooked it with the advertising banners, there was at least a 1 metre gap on the pier that was unused.
Meunchkkleeerrr III1015 days ago Unrated Rate Positive Rate Negative
i think if you zoom in , this gap was covered by thousands of tiny little stickers all made from the skin of the tiny children in the hurley adhesive factories in south america. if you zoom in really hard you can see the hurley logo and inside that it says "We are rich, so fuck you!"

The thing about events like these is that they only benefit the top pro's not all the other surfers. Yes, the pro's now earn more cash through the increased interest the public now has in surfing, but normal ous like us have suffered. When you paddle out to many waves near Cape Town centre it's filled with kooks that have no idea what they're doing. The decent surfers get pissed off and in the end the ous that surf for the stoke lose out massively - crowded spots, kooks throwing their boards in your face cos they can't duckdive... Please stop this commercialisation!!!

i'm not going to judge the ordinary people, but i agree wholeheartedly with the below. to me this is the opposite of sitting outside , on your own or wiht your mates and catching a few waves, exchanging piss-takes, drop ins, slam dunks whatever. This is naked commercialisation, capitalism and greed. I make no comment about the actual surfing; these guys are supremely skilled sportsmen, but it really saddens me that this is really what people 'at the top' seem to think its what surfing should embody. Look at The Endless Summer, check out Rastovich (ok a photag whore but we'd all do it) - isnt surfing about something more spiritual, more inate than signing baseball caps/logos and stickers? its just my opinion but i feel that it is this competitiveness,; sheer overindulgence that will destroy the sport/lifestyle.

yeah,pure american scum!
FloridaSufer1019 days ago Unrated Rate Positive Rate Negative
I agree but not with the American part haha fuck u, anyway living in Florida u gotta coap with the commercialization but we don't have waves so its like 10times worse, theirs always kooks getting in your way and the tourist are the worst since 80% of the time its shore pound i swear sometimes i aim for groups of them and just purposely fall off my board without a leash haha, only real solution is uncrounded beaches like national sea shores n such. That's how i deal with it, i only go near that crap when there is no waves an i wanna get drunk or its one of those times when the tourist spots are actually going off. But to comment on the video WTF i am appalled at that crap it was horrible i wanna see those guys shredding it up without some jetski tow in bullshit.

HB defintely has a place in my heart. Don't believe all the stuff people tell you about the vibe of southern california hotspots like huntington and trestles, in my experience its just not true. The vibes weird for sure, but all the people i ever met there were genuinely the some of nicest people i've ever met. That comp was obviously for the crowds, so what!! It looked awesome.

what a load of gash.... thats not surfing...the whole thing..it is ugly...consumption..instant gratification...urgh!
Sneakybadger 1023 days ago Unrated Rate Positive Rate Negative
For sure!
Cholmpers1022 days ago -1 Rating Rate Positive Rate Negative
Yeah it was consumption at it's best, but lots of free stuff too :). HB is my hometown and I watched it all go down from the peir. Absolutely epic. And then surfed all day afterwards. It's commercialism, sure, the biggest jackpot ever, but a local kid won it and now he's our hometown hero!! Absolutely off the wall. Come down and visit sometime bro you'll love it
