Surf Haven Algarve Winter Surf Packages

September to June.

Our (winter) surf haven is a 2 bedroom house located in the Costa Vicentia National Park. This is truly a surfers dream house hidden in an oasis of nature and wildlife, minutes drive from hidden breaks that pump on large winter swells. Winter time is when the big swells hit Portugal, so picture yourself surfing uncrowded (secret) spots containing right hand reefs, bowling left hand barrels and beachy A-frames, all within 10 minutes drive through the nature reserve on dirt roads. This winter adventure is an ideal escape for advanced/ experienced surfers. Open year round!

The surf haven can accommodate eight people. One private apartment with a double bed, the second apartment sleeps six with bunk bed/dorm share. You will have all the comforts of home, tv, surf videos, magazines, books, games room including pool table, fire place and a fridge stocked with food and drinks. After a day in the big winter swell, the surfers haven is an epic place to chill at night around the fire, taking in a surf film while relaxing with a couple of drinks, maybe a game of pool, or arguing over who got the biggest wave of the day. Rene will be your local surf guide, and with 10 years knowledge of living and surfing in the Algarve, you are sure to find some truly amazing breaks that don't have the summer time crowds.

The Surf Camp, July to September

The Atlantic Riders surf camp is located in the middle of the Costa Vicentina Nature Reserve, where you find an oasis of beautiful plants, birds, boar, owls and other wild life. This means that we are away from bars, clubs and shops. The Surf Camp is tucked away in our private valley surrounded by Cork Oaks and Eucalypt trees. A large variety of the surrounding beaches is host to the consistent swells that frequent this part of Europe. The camp is a peaceful place with nature and wild life at your doorstep.



The surf camp has a special vibe, a place where you can relax, feel good, mesmerizing in a hammock thinking back about the beach and waves you have surfed during the day.

The Algarve Surf

The advantage of surfing in the south western corner of the Algarve is that it offers similar characteristics to a peninsula, in a radius of just 30 to 40 kilometers. For instance with on-shore winds on the west coast we have good opportunities to find an off shore beach on the south coast. When waves get too big or unsurfable on the one coast we simply drive to the other coast and enjoy what's available there.

The Atlantic swells hit the European mainland first in Portugal and offer a huge variety of waves in the south western Algarve. This makes this corner of Portugal a unique place in Europe.

Bigger swells hit from October until April with water temperatures above 16 degrees celsius. Water temperature year round is pretty consistent, above 16 degrees in the winter months. Summer sees 18 to 21 degrees water temperature and surfing in board shorts is common.

On a flat day the surrounding places offer loads of different entertainment, like hiking, mountain biking and exploring the local coastline.

Beginner Surf Courses

- Beach, board and ocean safety, surf etiquette

Portugal has great waves for beginner, advanced and expert surfers.
We give Beginner surf courses and Advanced surf courses. Many of our learners come back to Portugal to make progress and book an Advanced course.
On the booking sheet simply indicate your level of surfing and which course you would like to follow. Surf lessons are always included in the surfing safari, surf camp and surf hotel packages.

Surf sun and beautiful beaches. In the very South Western corner of Portugal its all there year round. Days without surf and sun are a rarity at this end of Europe.


The legendary Surfing Safari.

Twice a year we run our legendary Surfing Safari. This real surfing safari starts in the North in the cultural city of Porto, home to the Port wine. The Surfing Safari finishes six days and 850 coastal kilometers later down South at our Surf Camp. With this old school trip we combine surfing and camping. A great way to explore a new country and its surf potential. Many have traveled this path before, many came back for more.
