Bermuda's 300 subtropical islands, located 900 miles out from the USA in the Atlantic should provide the region with great surf. However fringing reefs and fickle winds conspire to make this a consistent but less than perfect location with swells. Hungry Bay is the most consistent spot on islands with the highest quality waves arriving during the hurricane season, from August to November. The islands' south shores can have surf all year including winter with the north working best in winter or early spring. However, these north facing reefbreaks require boat access as they are isolated from main island. The Gulf Stream warms the islands' waters with a winter low and a summer high of 19-27°C or 66-81°F.
