With the forecast showing an all time swell heading for the coast it almost looked like something had gone wrong here at MSW, the charts just looked TOO perfect, a computer glitch maybe? As the swell started to roll in the buzz around this swell suggested not, we got straight on the phone to see if we could get our hands on something to show just how good it was, if the stories of mile long rides at 12ft+ J-Bay sounded unbelievable the photos tell it like it was...

The charts were showing this for 1 week straight

I was watching the charts the whole week before hoping the swell would hit KZN. By the 3rd the swell had swung straight passed us. You wouldnt believe it that durban was not even 4ft in the peak of the front... However the second system hit a week later and the swell was up but the onshore was howling. The next weekend another system hit KZN and was maxing out and only the brave/stupid or utterly insane surfed.

I'm a Fish hoek boy... and it was stuff from my dreams... I scored Kalk bay Sunday evening- thick,stand-up barrels. Clovelly normally only goes waist high, yet Monday brought running, stand-up tubes... some 7-10sec long... sigh.... BRING ON WINTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It looks as though The Bell got truly smashed... This is insane, I have only ever seen this once and I grew up in Kalk Bay. Pity I am in the UK - I would have loved to some of this stuff. You can see all the guys sitting on the reef in the one shot... Nasty, as it maxes out at about 6-8ft normally.
