RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil (Thursday, September 11, 2008) – The Billabong Girls Pro Rio is back on this morning with the elimination Round 2 and potentially Round 3 running in improved, glassy two-to-three foot (1 metre) waves at Barra da Tijuca in Rio de Janeiro.

Event No. 4 of 8 on the 2008 ASP Women’s World Tour, the Billabong Girls Pro Rio bore witness to some impressive surfing yesterday from veteran Megan Abubo (HAW), 30, and reigning ASP Women’s World Champion and current No. 1 on the 2008 ASP Women’s World Tour Stephanie Gilmore (AUS), 20, and today’s action will see the high drama of the elimination Round 2.

Conditions have improved this morning with cleaner surf in the three-foot (1 metre) range,” Brooke Farris, ASP Women’s World Tour Manager, said. “Round 2 is scheduled to kick off at 9am and with several surfers looking for a result here in Rio, there are certainly some crucial match-ups. Conditions permitting, we’ll move into Round 3 following.”

Today’s elimination Round 2 will host some dramatic match-ups as requalification hopefuls Julia De La Rosa Toro (PER), 26, Serena Brooke (AUS), 32, Nicola Atherton (AUS), 22, and Karina Petroni (USA), 20, all hope to avoid the dangerous equal 17th result.

Opening up the elimination Round 2 will be Samantha Cornish (AUS), 27, up against De La Rosa Toro and Serena Brooke.

The Billabong Girls Pro Rio will be webcast LIVE via www.billabongpro.com beginning at 9am.
