FOR one glorious day the drought broke, La Grav pumped as did every sand bank up and down the Frech coast.
This year, the Fellolterra Movistar Pantín Classic will feature a women’s edition: The Cabreiroá Surfing Girls. Billabong is proud to be a sponsor of this event which did not take place for the last 2 years. In 2010, the event is back and has been upgraded to a 6-star WQS contest for the first time in its history. With 70 top pro surfer girls in contention, the Cabreiroa Surfing Girls, is ready to offer a great show on the beach. The prize money will be $US35.000.

The history of Pantín Classic began in 1988. In past editions, the women’s event has welcome high grade female surfers such as Adelina Taylor, Marie-Pierre Abgrall or Estitxu Estremo. This year, organizers expect even more international competitors than other years. Some of them have already confirmed their participation like Sally Fitzgibbons (AUS), Sofia Mulanovich (PER), Coco Ho (HAW), Lee-Ann Curren (FR), and Billabong’s Paige Hareb (NZ), Courtney Conlogue (USA) and Mirka Martin Solar (EUK) to name a few.

Pantín is located northwest of Galicia, in the province of A Coruña where the holy town of Santiago de Compostela is located. This region is exceptionally beautiful and diverse! The landscape is a highlight with cliffs, rivers, mountains, valleys and endless beaches. Pantín has long been called “The Wave Factory” by the locals, as there are waves almost 365 days a year.

For the first time in the history of Pantin, the ASP has upgraded to 6 star the girls event, making it one of the most important Women’s WQS events (World Qualifying Series) in the World! As back-Up, organizers will set up an alternative site on the beach of Doniños in case both events (mens and girls) run simultaneously.
