Inconsistent right point next to UCSB requiring big W swell. Excellent quality when it breaks correctly. Handles as big a swell as the ocean can provide, the bigger the better. Fast, hollow sections and long rides when it's on; mushy, slow, and weak when it's not. The inner peak is called Poles and is popular with grommets and longboarders. Lower tides are generally best. Always crowded with students.
Access is by parking in the coin-metered lot adjacent to the point (make sure you have coins if you go).

This graph shows the percentage of days that had a ridable wind swell (7 seconds period or more) or groundswell (10 seconds period or more) of over 3ft. It also shows the dominant wind direction. Not all of these days will neccessarily give great surf, and very short lived wind swells or longer period secondary swells may produce surf not recorded, but it gives a clear idea of the seasonal trend and a rough guide to the chances of scoring something ridable.
