One of the best, as well as one of the most beautiful, beaches in south Portugal. At low tide a long left winds off the Carrapateira cliffs below the car park and from mid-high tide the beach turns on the goods with often fast and hollow rights into the rivermouth. The left gets busy but the beach contains enough peaks to thin the crowds. Consistent but easily blown out. Along a winding track to the south of Carrapateira village, this consistent beach has more shelter than Praia da Bordeira and a right breaking off a large rock from mid-low tide. Average peaks break further down the beach. Popular with Algarve surf schools, despite the odd rip.
