Based at the island’s top surf spot of La Santa on the North West coast, the shop is short stroll from El Quemao, The Slab, the magical Right-Hand Point and Complex Left. Famara, an equally well-known surf beach is less than 10 minutes away.

Kelly Slater could probably ride waves backwards, blindfold on a plank and still do it with style. Unfortunately for the rest of us it’s having the right equipment (and good tuition) that can help to increase or decrease the pleasure of your surf experience.

Dennis W Smith is the creator of CentrePoint and as a seasoned surfboard shaper he knows a thing or two about boards and all the other paraphinalia that accompanies wave riding. All the brands and products in the shop have been carefully chosen so that clients are getting top equipment and great value for money.

If you’re a beginner or don’t want to bring equipment from your home country why not use our rental equipment? At low cost you can rent surfboards (from x€ per day), bodyboards (from x€ per day) and wetsuits (from x€ per day) for the duration of your stay in Lanzarote.

Depending on the weather conditions we go to La Santa, Famara, or Arrieta.

Typical day with beginner lessons

Meet at surf spot (or pick up if you don’t have transport), flexibility dependant upon tides, weather conditions and what they do (schedule)

Go through routine exercises relating to paddling, the spring, stance to ride the wave on the beach
Broken down into steps both on the beach & put into practice in the water.
First starting really tiring so important to go between the beach exercise, rest and then back into water
Step by step procedure, lot of surf psychology DWS method..

Centre Point Surf School

You are, almost, never too young or too old to enjoy the thrill of learning to surf or bodyboard. For anyone of any age it helps with balance, strength, agility and discipline – beyond that it’s also brilliant fun…

For visitors to the island - from city folk looking to try something different and family groups through to young International surfers on the “Grind” (the ASP Association of Professional Surfers WQS or World Qualifying Series) - we offer surf lessons ranging from beginner level to advanced. Even experienced surfers want to improve their technique.

The islands young residents have access to CentrePoint Surf & Bodyboard Club which meets once a week throughout the year. This dedicated group of 6-16 year olds are showing real talent and starting to make their mark at local and international competitions. New recruits are always welcome.

Accommodations for surfers in Lanzarote

CentrePoint’s hostel-style finca is ideal for those on a budget wanting to spend anything from a couple of days to a month in Lanzarote. There is an independent studio apartment (for up to 3 people) and 3 bedrooms in the main house available to rent.

This old, traditional house is located in Tao at one of the highest central points of the island. From the glass surrounded “crow’s nest sitting room” you can look down over the panoramic view to Famara and La Graciosa and check out the swell. By car it takes approximately 10 minutes to either Famara or La Santa. When the opposite coast has better swell Arrieta, Jameos and Orzola are 20 minutes drive away.

The house and the facilities are styled and equipped in a very basic way – If you want true surf ambience, this is it.

Intensity with beginners 3hrs is enough to start with, can build up thoughout their holiday

Boards are much less expensive in the Canaries than many other parts of Europe i.e. UK, France so take that into consideration – you could leave Lanzarote with a fantastic new custom built board, perfect for your size, colour and style of riding..

Such was the driving theme of Hot Buttered Surfboards as it exploded through the closing decades of the 20th century. Australian HB founder Terry Fitzgerald took to the world’s most challenging waves and used their feedback to change the course of how a surfboard could feel.

Today, as surfing matures and surfboards enter a new millennium, the HB umbrella includes surfers of the highest caliber and just as importantly surfer/shapers who as craftsmen are creating the surfboards of the future. Dennis Smith has been working as a licensed HB shaper for x years and is proud of his long association with one of the most authentic surf brands in the world

Dennis has been a surfer & in the surf board industry for close to 40 years, finished boards for x years and designed and shaped them for (since 76) x years. He is the licensed shaper for Hot Buttered in the Canary Islands - specialising in building custom surfboards designed to clients exact specifications is what he does best.

With his years of surfing and the experience of working with some of the most influential surfers in the Canaries, Dennis is a true craftsman dedicated to designing and shaping surfboards to suit the style of each individual surfer.

Not all clients are advanced surfers, some are just at the beginning but their love affair with surfing is strong and they want the best board to speed their surfing development. He takes great pleasure in following the learning curve of a surfer through the different levels of their ability, often surfing with them (or videoing them) to assess their style and requirements.
