KELLY Slater, reflections on a career through crystallised moments of memory.

It's no secret that Kelly got to number 10, not via lucky breaks but hard work and an obsessive concentration on the detail. He knew how to beat the opposition and they knew he had them all marked with cross-hairs in his mental book.

He often had the hoodoo over his opponents before he'd even paddled out and sometime the judges too. Because he is a natural winner he generates a natural winning momentum sucking everything else into the vortex of his double-decade wake.

How do you get so obsessive? You have to love it.

	PS the side slip barrellllll in France was on purpose. That's right, just a little dramatics to seal the deal. How would you like to be that good? I know I sure would.... 	To all the Sinbads out there get over it. Lots of empty waves out about from Mission beach to One Palm. Lots of ways to meke money out there. Your just jealous. Go surf. Go make some money. I don't know about you, but I need both. Slater is the best at this game ever full stop. It is what it is. Again get over it and enjoy. L/G baby...

	All of this adulation for Kelly Slater is pathetic. None of you morons gets it. Slater is the ultimate company man, like Hemmings, Rabbit, Tomson, Curren and the rest of his kind. As he's stated many times his goal is to see surfing grow. As we cautioned years ago, the hordes have finally descended on surfing. The equation is simple: The more people that surf, the more money Quicksilver makes, the more money Slater makes. Surfers have become a tribe of sellouts and sheep. We have allowed something we love to be trampled on and it's unforgiveable.

	I think modern pro's have a few men to thank; Rabbit and Co for the genesis of a sport, Potter and Archie and AI and Curren and Carroll and Co for breathing fire into the creation and Kelly for turning the sport into an athlete's profession. Truthfully though, the average surfer's main gain has been damn nice wetsuits..... all the rest is fluff.

	Kelly is no doubt the man, and I think he'd like less of these articles and more of the Surfrider ones.
