UTILISING the premise of testing out a load of kit out for FCS as a ruse, Chippa Wilson embarked on an Indian surfari. A trip which ended up being a lot more about a cultural safari than the surf.
If you're not familiar with Chippa he's half human and half helicopter from Cabarita Beach, 15 minutes south of Snapper Rocks. After seeing this series drop we pinned him down via the virtual lance of instant communication to find out how a young ripper from the Goldy got to grips with the subcontinent's hectic heartland, India.
How did you end up being chosen to head down there?
I'm not sure about that question. I was lucky to be chosen I guess!
Had you been to India before?
That was the first time for me, I hadn't even thought about going there before this trip.
anyway ignoring the FCs content..apart from the Andamans, Lakshadweep and Nicobar, (and that dodgy ASR clip from the man made reef)- I have not seen a decent proper wave from India. I hope the locals can proove me wrong. There must be decent waves out there. Has to be. But hippies and travellers have a long history in India- so you would have thought there would have been some reports of decent waves. Saying that outside tourist areas the coast is not well explored i suppose and access is tricky. How deep is the water off shore...all the waves look mushy.
Nice Videos I thought! Seems like a nice place too!And as for the advertising...FCS paid for the trip so they have to get something back, plus arent most surf videos intended to advertise products in some way so maybe FCS should be commended for not trying to hide it:)
What is wrong with everyone. These videos are great! They're shot really well and yeah, even if it's more like an FCS commercial, it's a damn good one.
frikkin A - nothing's free in this world, except maybe waves, at least it's an ad about stuff we love, as opposed to cars, insurance policies, investment opportunities etc.., enjoy man, or jog on!
My friend Tushar and I at The Shaka Surf Club were lucky enough to travel with Chippa and the FCS crew while they were filming in India. It was such an amazing experience watching Chippa do some insane tricks on our waves! It gave us hope that we could do that too someday haha!! We're so stoked to see that kids from our fishing village are also featured in the 3rd Chapter!! Read more about our trip on our blog post: http://theshakasurfclub.wordpress.com/2011/01/25/living-in-a-surf-bubble/
The FCS crew stayed with us at soulandsurf.com, they were really great guests and Chippa put us 'locals' to shame on a small day at our local break... Airs off of those waves!?
terrible clip. the indian community and surrounds shots were good. the tiny beach break waves were OK. but that was ruined by shots of chippa and his accesories. spent 18 months in india- never been anywhere like it- if you want an experience you have to go.
Mmmm subtle. It reminds me of .... I think they make surfboard accesories. Is it leashes ummm not sure. It'll come to me soon .... It would help if I could Fink Clearly Soon. Ah FCS sounds like a cool acronym. That would be a great name for a product.
