“DESOTO, DeSoto, DeSoto, DeSotooooooooooo!” commentator Ezra hollered into the mic, announcing to all of Makaha the confirmation of a new World Longboard Champion. It was a cry rivaling any world soccer cup announcer celebrating a feat that not even the dexterous Ronaldo could achieve.
There’s not been a WLT stop in Hawaii since ’97, which was also held at Makaha that Dino Miranda won, so it was high time for longboarding to take centre stage in the surfing islands again.
Duane Desoto, Makaha local through and through, knows the wave pretty well.
