DOMINIQUE Abersalie from Pellsrus is the proud owner of Tiago Pires' spanking new Chilli sled, while a bunch of other happy-as-clams grommets will be tearing up Kitchen Windows on ex-contest boards from Kieren, Kai and Mick. Before the pros headed out for Huntington a couple of days ago, they got together and amassed a stockpile of shooters to donate to some of the rippers from the "Surf With The Pros" day they put on at J-Bay last week.
Mike Ruthnum, manager of Jeffreys Bay's hallowed Country Feeling store explains, "The deal for Dominique getting Tiago's board is that he has to fix a snapped nose on one of the other boards for one of the other kids. "Dominique's probably the most deserving of the youngsters ... surfs really well and features in a lot of the local contests." Dom won a contest in Durban earlier this year and is also a member of the Lotto Future Stars team.
As Mick Fanning stated on arrival in California: "I left a couple of boards at the Supertubes Guesthouse with a whole bunch of legropes and stuff. It's great to see Mike helping get them in the right direction."
Part of the remit for the 'Surf With the Pros' days is that the kids can drop in on their heroes. Of course it's only fair that the same should apply: Dayyan and Dominique share a party wave.© 2009 - Joli/WPS
