WHO: Red Bull Night Riders features 16 of the best surfers on the East Coast competing in an extreme tow-at event as the dark ocean waters are illuminated by huge towering lights.
The invited riders include Matt Keenan, Andrew Gesler, Rob Kelly, Kevin Richards, Sam Hammer, Dean Randazzo, Raven Lundy, Lucas Rogers, Jeff Meyers, Ian Parnell, Ian Bloch, Frankie Walsh, Sean Kilarney, Chris Kelly, Billy Hume and Balaram Stack.
WHAT: Red Bull Night Riders is a competitive surfing experience under a very unique circumstance – being towed at a wave at night. Surfers form their own teams of two, one ski driver and one surfer. Each surfer on the team of two gets two tow-ats for their chance to get the biggest air and turn the best trick.
Teams will compete in three different categories for a chance to win an overall prize purse of $5,000. The first and most important category is best trick, where teams will be judged by a combination of the biggest air, degree of difficulty in the trick, and landing the air and surfing away. The second category is amplitude, rewarding the surfer who goes the biggest - even if he doesn't land. The final category is gouge. It’s the hardest, strongest, most powerful turn at high speed after being towed by the ski.
WHEN: Friday, August 17, 9 p.m.
WHERE: Atlantic City, New Jersey in front of the Trump Plaza Beach Bar Large crowds are expected to come out to support the local surfers and experience this unique event held a stone’s throw from the massive Caesar’s Pier and famous Atlantic City Boardwalk. Red Bull Night Riders will light up the ocean by artificial light sources surrounding the event location.
