Just as hard to reach, Estero del Plátano has a good reputation among surfers of northern Ecuador. What appears to be a beachbreak ultimately breaks over reef since the sand is covering a good rock set-up. Waves regularly barrel thanks to typically offshore winds in the morning. It needs NW, or very strong W swells.
