[PT-Tom Browning's Review]
Tom Browning
Have been surf-addicted for around 7 years, mostly around the South Wales/North Devon/Cornwall area, but have done many France, Portugal, Morrocco and Canaries trips. My go to board for most conditions is a 5'11 Al Merrick flyer. Try to surf as fast and progressive as I can!

Compared to my standard G3000 fin (similar to G5’s) the JS-1 fins to have a larger area – meaning you can push harder through turns without sliding. Also they have a slightly wider base, this gives a board more drive down the line. They are also more raked which will draw out your turns more. A bit more depth/height adds to their hold in a wave's face. The Performance Core is designed to give the feel of a glassed on fin but with reduced weight (higher performance) and the flexibility of being able to remove them.

I surfed them in some solid 4ft waves and they felt great – I definitely felt I had more drive down the line with these than the G3000s I had been using previously. They felt stiffer through turns due to the larger area, but in the waves I was surfing that was great – I didn't want to be sliding out, I wanted to be driving fast down the line making sections and shaping some drawn out turns, aided by the added rake and surface area. Probably more of a mental thing than anything else but my board also felt a bit lighter and more responsive than usual.

I would recommend them for someone who is of medium weight (60-80kg) who wants a fin they can put on in better surf for more drive, hold and more drawn-out turns than they get with the G5 or similar fins. They may also work for a heavier surfer in smaller surf.
