I must admit to having been a little sceptical regarding the effect that relatively small variations in fin design will have on surfboard performance. Previously, I tested the PC-5 fins which have the same profile as my usual M-5 fins and although they were a touch stiffer I noticed little or no difference in real terms. In view of this I wasn’t expecting much else from the PC-7 fin set which when put against the PC-5s only have a slightly larger template area. The reality however was that they stiffened my board up considerably, so much so that on the first few waves I couldn’t work out what I was doing wrong! I didn’t get to surf them in anything over 4’ but I am confident in bigger surf they would provide extra hold and drive and would negate the need for me to occasionally nurse my ‘Afterburner’ through faster turns. In smaller surf I would choose the familiar PC-5 but this could be because I didn’t really surf the PC-7 enough to get used to the bigger fin profile.
As with all the PC range, they are beautifully constructed and finished and can only enhance the look of your board.
