MUNDAKA, Basque Country/Spain (Saturday, October 4, 2008) – A brand new Billabong Pro Mundaka champion will be crowned this afternoon. Not a single former winner of the event exists amongst the eight quarterfinalists competing at Mundaka today.

With only seven heats of competition remaining, there is no need to run the Dual Heat format utilized for Rounds 2, 3 and 4. Heats will be 30-minutes in duration and competition will commence at 11:15am. The Billabong Pro final will hit the water at roughly 2:30pm.

Adrian Buchan (AUS) is the only Top 45 surfer still competing who has won an event in 2008. Former ASP World Tour event winners Joel Parkinson (AUS), Taj Burrow (AUS), C.J. Hobgood (USA) and Bede Durbidge (AUS) are still searching for their first victories of the season, while Adriano de Souza (BRA), Tom Whitaker (AUS) and Luke Stedman (AUS) are in the hunt for the first ASP World Tour victory of their careers.
