The island of Sta Catarina, or Florianopolis, is located in the southern state of Sta Caterina. The island is mainly known for its stunning coastline, with beaches to suit every taste. The city of Florianopolis is on the west of the island, and its road bridge connects the island to the mainland. Outside the city, there are a number of small towns and villages, all with a very distinct character - from the well populated tourist resorts on the north of the island, to the small Azorean fishing villages on the west coast, and the farmlands throughout the centre of the island. A small mountain range forms the spine of the island, and provides opportunities for beautiful walks and viewpoints. Due to its location, the west coast of the island is one of the few places in Brazil where you can watch the sun set. A good option for accomodation is The Campeche Surf Hostel, situated at Campeche Beach, a nice place run by a local surfer that also provides surf tours and surf lessons, very safe and very Surf.
