Classic Hossegor: La Graviere doing what it does best ... Timmy Reyes© 2009 - Cedric De Barros/www.cedricdebarros.com
HOSSEGOR the glinting jewel at the bottom of the Euro beachbreak barrel, undoubtedly the "must do" place in South West France and top of any surfer's summer destination list. As the North Atlantic sinks into summer hibernation the beachbreaks here will turn any available swell into something rideable thanks to a deep-water trench (the Gouf) which bisects the continental shelf and focuses power onto Hossegor's beaches. Part of the Côte d’Argen, a 145mi/230km of uninterrupted sandy beach - the longest in Europe - which is surfable along the entire stretch but concentrated in power and people towards the south. The great thing about the towns here is that your non-surfing other half will love it too with bars, shops and respectable eateries abounding. You can wine and dine whilst mind-surfing that sunset session.
