Up against Jordy Smith surfing in his first final (a big moment for one so oft touted) Taj, despite not surfing by his own admission, to the best of his ability to the win. Eschewing traditional tactics, go often, and go big, Taj sat back and picked of the scores he needed.
"I didn’t feel like I surfed my best in the final," Burrow said. "I kind of just did what it took to win. I just waited for the best waves, did a couple nice turns - nothing too wild. I’d rather have taken Jordy’s approach - catch lots of waves and just let loose.
"That’s kind of my strategy normally, but it worked fine. Being a bit more patient and selective than usual definitely paid off. But I knew Jordy could unleash and get the big score any moment."
Don't usually follow comps, except for the headlines in the print press. But thanks to a very user friendly web site (heats on demand ) and some extra down time thanks to poor local conditions stayed in touch with this event. Confirmed my LACK of faith in the competition scene. Surfers that i found exciting to watch and impressed me continually got shafted ??? I'm positive this circus is decided in boardrooms not board shorts ! On a good note +5 to all those involved in the web cast, including the handy link from my daily MSW dose.
I completely agree, I like Kai's surfing but no way did he surf better than Mick in Round 4. On his 2 top waves Kai hit 5 back hand snaps and 1 floater - Mick's last wave by itself beats that. Check it out http://www.quiksilverpro.com.au/heats.aspx#/169/
hold on.... who cry's in their oats? did dwight k schrute write this article ? don't mind me i'm just a little bitter over the dane reynolds/jordy smith chirp.
