So Taj, how come you're so far out of Teahupoo? I always stay with the Teriinatoofas (family of Hior Teriinatoofas, 2004 World Junior Champ) they're like my second family, very hospitable, and I can surf out the front when there's waves.
How's the surf been? Pretty small, I missed the main swell event and had a few 4ft days but nothing crazy. Looks like the comp is going to be the same which is a pretty scary.
How do you keep active? Ha ha, just playing pool and bocce. Also surfing that beach on the east that everyone's been at. I've always trained about this amount, stretching etc, keeping supple. Watching lots of movies and enjoying getting back to basics without any internet etc.
Are you dealing with the pressure of being being world number 2?
I don't feel any pressure really at all. It's great to be in a good position but I'm not really thinking about the ratings too much, I mean it's exciting you know, I want to do well and move one spot up.
...Come on, you must be thinking about the rating? Yeah, a little bit... It's too early to put pressure on yourself. There's no way I'd put pressure on myself with only four events down it's a ... yeah ... that'd do nothing but hinder me I'm sure. We've still got six events to go so maybe when we're at the second to last event and I'm in this position then I'll tell ya I'm feeling the pressure. Right now it's important to be relaxed and have fun, surf my best, that's all that's important.
