YOUR shots of Hurricane Katia. Have a flick through and give us your top three. Winner gets a photography commission (the last photog we sent to Tahiti) and all the top three get more FCS gear than you can fit in the supplied board bag.

Hurricane Katia ended up giving the Caribbean an unusually heavy dousing of hurricane swell with enough straight east in the swell to squeeze all the way through the Windward island chain lighting up just about everywhere. Florida probably didn't get it as good as Irene but heading north and out over the Atlantic Katia provided more than a week of surf.

We've had 100s of pics dropping from the Caribbean all the way up to Nova Scotia and then across the Atlantic as far as Ireland, even retaining enough power to wake up the French big spots. We'll call this the golden route, close enough to deliver swell, yet far enough away to avoid the destructive intentions of Irene. In the middle of all this the Quik Pro in New York rode the odds and latched onto one of the East Coast swells of the season.

Here's a selection of the pics we like thus far, we'll leave the competition open for day or so as Katia does her thing over the other side of the pond in Europe and to allow any stragglers to file their entries. To vote just let us know in the comments which is your winner.

More from this photog here and the entire crop of recent hurricane shots here.

I'm a lover not a fighter...I'm missing a ton of surfs myself so I can be shooting, from the beach and from the water. I have been surfing and shooting for most of my life, and have an overwhelming passion to combine the two. I am following MSW guidelines for the contest and I have been telling friends what I have been doing, and they are stoke. We have a great, tight surfing community here, and I'm glad to be part of it, and equally proud of my surf photography.

There doesn't seem to be a proper way of telling how old a users profile is, but my UserID# #76763 and I registered on 9/25/10. There seem to be a lot of new registrations UserID# 164012, 163794, 163794, 164056 etc that are all voting for #18. I would hope that this contest going to be judged on photo merit or who can create the most new accounts to vote on their own shot?
Freepossum245 days ago +3 Rating Rate Positive Rate Negative
The sign in #18 looks photoshopped. Voting for yourself 20 times isn't cool mate.
shark e245 days ago +2 Rating Rate Positive Rate Negative
To start off with, I didn't create 20 accounts, and I'll let the quality of my images speak for themselves. I happen to have a lot of friends who are stoked about my images and a chance on me winning. Is that wrong? You should get some facts before opening your mouth.

Photoshopped...Are you serious? Get a grip. Yeah government signs will win contest everytime. Come check out our break, especially when they won't let you walk over and access 6' firing tubes, it happens, and it's very real. Get some facts before you speak out against someone and something you apparently know nothing about...and like I said I didn't vote for myself 20 times. Are you even familiar with the whole concept of voting? It doesn't appear so...
rarrendale245 days ago +1 Rating Rate Positive Rate Negative
i've been surfing there for over thirty years, and no it's not photoshopped. sometimes you can walk onto the base, other times there's an armed guard keeping everyone who doesn't paddle in, out. it's true, the photographer is a longtime friend, but he's also a professional fine art photog who recently branched into surfing, and in my opinion, the lighting, perspective, and context of that shot is one of the best i've ever seen of my local area. get over yourself.
wpfay3245 days ago +1 Rating Rate Positive Rate Negative
Isn't a plus for the MSW community that this photographer has so many friends and is so well respected in his community that they (his friends) would be willing to go through the process of registering an account (not necessarily an easy chore, I tried 3 times with my AT&T and was unable) and becoming a member of MSW? I was unaware of the site until he brought it to my attention. Commercial sites thrive on increasing memberships and participation, so a flurry of activity in that department is a good thing. I believe that you are laboring under a false assumption that the photograher would open multiple accounts to vote for himself. He may actively campaign for himself, but he would not "vote early, vote often".

#1 - #1, #2 - #2, #3 - #20. #1 was taken with a board mounted GoPro cam, back to the subject. That's just sick! The barrel and Toth in the pit is great, but it's about the pic in this contest, and the blonde is just hot! How could u not give her a vote? Just my views...

TarikB's shot of Brian Toth is by far the best--captures not only the power of the wave, but the beauty. Bright, crisp colors, excellent angle, Brian's critical position in the wave.

So hard to choose... but for consistently taking some great shots of Katia... My first pick is No. 2, TarikB! 2nd+ Adam Cornick! Deserves something for his large and awesome contribution to MSW! 3rd+ tough one... but for me, No. 46 of Ireland. Comedy awards to #18(??) the government property one, and #25, ha gotta love that face! Oh, and Rihanna's ass deffinatly deserves an award.
