The perfect score ... Dane Reynolds© 2009 - Kelly Cestari/ASP/CI via Getty Images

WHAT a day - commencing with Curren vs Occy before moving into perhaps the best day of competition ever seen on the Dream Tour. Curren edged Occy in the Clash of the Icons in solid surf at the start of the day, remarkable in itself, but as the tide dropped out J-Bay transformed itself into a high performance machine - flirting between deep makeable barrels, critical walls and endless opportunities for floaters - with three barrels a wave not out of the ordinary. This was 'that day' which as a local you would be talking about for years and it is such a refreshing change to see the Dream Tour lucking into a swell like this. Standout performances were required from each heat winner. Dane Reynolds and Joel Parkinson scored perfect 10s with Kelly Slater taking the highest heat total of the day, dropping two 9s out of his combined scores. If you could give the day of competition a score it would have to be a 9.9 or perhaps even a 10. Click through to review some of the top performances of the day. Pictured above Dane Reynolds on his way to scoring a perfect 10 point ride during Round 2. Check out the heat video HERE.

god i would have been pissed if i was a local. If this was 'that day' you would be talking about as a local for years as you put it, how annoying would it be that you cant surf it properly as there is a competition being held. Hope they never come here as if the same happened me i'd be furious. For my moneys worth, the best event was rip curl search event in la jolla mexico in 2006. What a wave, relativley unknown with a solid local crew, now filled to the gills with surfers. Well done rip curl, hope you made your money out it

Yeah, skived off work to make sure I caught this.., was it worth it!! 6am start UK time, hardly had time to take a piss. non-stop AWESOME!! More of the same tomorrow I reckon, not worth missing. Wave of the day for me was Kelly's, even though he didn't get a 10, he should've. Close second by Parko. Good to see Dane showing his mettle, amazing heat closing move. Favourite has to be Sean Holmes if he can step up his attack. Be there!!
