CLAY Marzo epitomises the stoke you feel when you have just caught your wave of the session - except he's always that way - he 'is' surfing. Whether it's his Aspergus (a major feature of the film) which allows him an almost telepathic understanding of what the wave will do next is a moot point. This boy rocks and is possibly the most talented surfer of his generation. Following him around the world as he rules the waves of Tahiti, Fiji, Hawaii, France, Spain and Australia, this movie cuts between epic surfing and legendary surfers testifying to the ability of this mercurial talent.
Universally agreeing this to be a jaw-droppingly good watch, our reviewers pressed the pause and rewind buttton numerous times, just trying to get their heads around his combinations.
The manoeuvres he pulls will leave you gawping. This sets the tone for the rest of the film, the boy is seriously good. He can kill any face and ride any kind of wave and if you think you know what he is going to do next you're wrong.Steve Marchlewski
Open and honest, Clay, even gives an honest opinion on his sponsor's products. Whether it was deliberate by Quicksilver to leave this segment in doesn't detract from a genuinely humourous scene.
The guy really is an enigma - the cynic in me almost feels that Quiksilver is trying to work out how best to market him... maybe even explain his somewhat patchy contest results... In one hilarious sequence he says exactly what he thinks of the Quik boardshorts he's supposed to be endorsing.Laurie Saunders
So, if you want a movie to kick back with or a 'amp film' before a session ythen this is the one. The testimonials probably will not bear to many repeats but the surfing certainly will.
