In some of the best conditions this competition has seen so far, Stuart Kennedy took out the 2010 O’Neill Cold Water Classic Tasmania in emphatic style with the highest combined heat total of the event.

"I guess I just got super confident towards the end," said Stuart who was surfing in his first ever 6 Star ASP event final. "I was really nervous out there," he said. "But I was almost crying when I got that 9.5"

The 20-year-old from Lennox Head, Australia scored 18 points in the final heat to beat the sublime talent that is Wiggolly Dantas and formally announce his arrival on surfing's world stage.

Try 0 degrees in January/February. And YES that is possible considering salt water has a lower freezing point than fresh water due to salinity. My hair sticks out of my hood and freezes into large icicles that beat me in the face. Cold water classic my ass.

The cameraman in the water has no gloves on, balls that this is the coldest event ever. The camera fellas at the one last year were wearing dry suits and had goggles on, probably to stop there eyeballs from freezing. ha.

Cold water warm water I laugh at Ye all I got to grow up surfing all those breaks and with huge crowds of maybe me my little bro and 3-4 more guys out (late 80's). Life's tough growing up with your house over looking the bluff reef. Think this event is not just about the cold water its about the pure wilderness and isolation of the place, If you hurt you self or get bitten by a snake the nearest hospital is 2.5hr away. so steve if you did indeed live in the marrawah area you will know what im on about

i lived near to hobart for a while near a place called shelly point! sick waves and i difinately agree that tazzies are a harden bunch of real surfers! where you live in a untouched wilderness with big snakes and big noah's and no crowd factor. But iv seen flying doctors man there pretty good? no problem with the hardcore few but its an insult to us to call it cold water. its meant to be whole different comp where you see good surfers with full rubber (at least 4/3 boots) ripping in cold non commercial spots. we have plenty of comps around that are off the unbeaten track! there even thinking of putting a c.t comp on a famous left hand point up in n/w oz near a place name similar to your old localspot in tazzie. cant get more remote than that but still not a coldwater classic!!!!!!!!

I also wondered why I was not seeing anyone in booties, hoods or using gloves? I wonder what mil wetsuits they all wore? Good waves here in Thurso today. Water is 8, air was 5! I will see what they all wear up here. Congratulations to the winner, the waves looked for real.
