SOMEWHERE, Porta Del Sol/Puerto Rico (Tuesday, November 2, 2010) – A lay day has been called for the Rip Curl Pro Search Puerto Rico, with smaller one-to-two foot (0.5 metre) waves on offer at the primary site at Porta Del Sol.

Event No. 9 of 10 on the 2010 ASP World Tour, the Rip Curl Pro Search Puerto Rico is coming off three action-packed days that have bore witness to Stephanie Gilmore (AUS), 22, claiming her fourth, consecutive ASP Women’s World Title yesterday, and the impending showdown for the 2010 men’s crown between Kelly Slater (USA), 38, and Jordy Smith (ZAF), 22, has captured the collective imagination of the international sporting community.

“The surf has obviously dropped today and we’re looking at similar conditions this week with a potential increase,” Rich Porta, ASP International Head Judge, said. “We’ve called a lay day today and will be back tomorrow at 7am to assess conditiond for a possible 7:30am start.”

Surfline, official forecaster for the Rip Curl Pro Puerto Rico, are calling for lingering NE/ENE trade windswell and N/NNW swell mix on tap for today. ENE trade windswell/chop is expected on Wednesday and Thursday. There is potential for a rare SW swell for the west side of the island late in the week and into the weekend depending on the progress and strength of Tropical Storm Tomas.

Event organizers will reconvene tomorrow morning at 7am for a possible 7:30am start.

When competition resumes, up first will be Taj Burrow (AUS), 32, up against rookie Dusty Payne (HAW), 21.
