Marlon Lipke Still in Contention for next Year's ASP World Tour

First German on the WCT?

Marlon Lipke(DEU), 23, current ASP World Qualifying Series (WQS) No. 14, remains in contention to qualify for next year's ASP World Tour and join an already solid European contingent confirmed for 2009.

This would be a fantastic achievement for a nearly surf-locked country and a wake-up call to the Brits - where are you guys?

Lipke, who landed on Oahu rated No. 9 after an equal 5th at the ASP WQS 6-Star Estoril Coast Pro in Portugal, suffered an early elimination in the first event of the Vans Triple Crown of
Surfing at Haleiwa and dropped five spots back on the ratings. Lipke now sits right on the "bubble" and will have to get through a couple more heats to secure his Dream Tour berth.

Lipke, who has had his best year ever on the ASP World Qualifying Series (WQS) with several big results including an equal 3rd at the ASP WQS 6-Star Prime Rip Curl Pro Hossegor/ Seignosse, will have to place second or first in Heat 4 of Round 4 where he will meet with former ASP World Champion CJ Hobgood(USA), current ASP Top 45 member Dayyan Neve (AUS) and Hawaiian standout Hank Gaskell (HAW).

With current ASP Top 45 surfers Miky Picon (FRA), Jeremy Flores(FRA) and Tiago Pires (PRT) leading the European charge at the ASP WQS 6-Star Prime O'Neill World Cup of Surfing, the old
continent will be represented by seven men when competition resumes. Possibly tomorrow Tuesday.
