Newquay Surf

Fistral Beach
Europe's most famous surfing beach and a stage for many surfing events to include the Ripcurl Boardmasters event every summer. works on all tides and if there is swell on the North Cornish coast Fistral bay will pick it up. North Fistral is exposed and the south end can offer shelter from unfavourable winds. It can get crowded here

The Town Beaches
Towan, Great Western, Tolcarne and Lusty Glaze) Situated just below Newquay Town and offering varying degrees of shelter from the prevailing south westerly winds. All beaches link up at low tide and it tends to get bigger towards the north. In stormy weather when much of the North Coast is blown out Newquay Bay can offer fast hollow waves.
~Crantock Beach
This is an ambitious walk or a short drive away from Matt's surf Lodge. A scenic beach which lies at the mouth of the River Gannel, best at low tide but can offer great waves at all tides when the conditions are right.

The following popular Cornish surfing spots are all situated within 20 minutes drive from the Surf Lodge and like Newquay's beaches all offer seasonal lifeguarding (usually from Easter weekend until the end of September) and have facilities for surfers including board rental and car parking.

Holywell Bay
Low-mid, a good bet for a quiet surf. Can be deceivingly powerful with a good swell.

Perran Sands/ Perranporth
Two miles beach offering many oppertunities at all tides and can hold big swells. The further you walk up the beach the quieter and more exposed it tends to be. At the end of your session you won't even have to leave the beach for a sundowner, The Watering Hole pub is on the sand.

Porth Beach - Does not work that often but worth a look if there is plenty of swell and an offshore wind.

Watergate Bay
A renowned longboard spot, also popular with paddle boarders and kite surfers. Picks up the swell and works on all tides, many peaks at lower tides but limited at high tide. You may bump into Jamie Oliver out back, other than that it's pukka here!

Mawgan Porth
Best at low to mid tides, exposed so can offer surprisingly powerful and sometimes hollow waves, even in smaller swells. Lefts and rights which tend to break towards the middle of the beach.~
