Tiago Pires, Dream Tour sophomore, halted what many considered to be the juggernaut of the event when he eliminated reigning nine-time ASP World Champion Kelly Slater in the quarters.
I’m over the moon right now, Pires said. Kelly (Slater) is my favourite surfer and I have so much respect for him. I knew I had to wait for the bigger waves to get the scores to beat him. I’ve had a really tough year, but have been training very hard for this and I’m so happy to get through.

Congratulations Mick, Welldone. You have such great focus and it makes for a great finish to the WCT for the year.I hope the champion is crowned in Hawaii!
just want to say not only is fanning a class surfer, but according to a few of my old muckers who headed over for the ASP, they met up wiht him (and someone called Ed, who works for MSW!) and he came over and was VERY cool with them, no airs(!) or graces jsut a really nice down to earth bloke...who then proceeded to force one of them to strip, have his nipple licked and then commandeered a road and started 'naked races'. I've seen the video and he looks sound as a pound.
he is not as lucky this year, it a pity because he's surfing well, but he may have to focus on doing as well as he can in the next events, just like every1 else on the tour.
