MICK Fanning's on top of the world after winning the Rip Curl Pro Search. In defeating Bede Durbidge in solid, if onshore, surf he put himself in the driving seat for the title.
The Search lived up to its moniker, flitting around the back-up sites before hitting the jackpot in the quarters with some seriously scary surf.
Actually Ive surfed Pipe and this place and the difference is this.... NO CHANNEL at supertubes, meaning you get beatings GUARANTEED.... Not that pipe doesnt give beatings but its usually because the crowd pushes you too deep, or a rogue set. At supertubos, a massive wave can break anywhere along that stretch. that's the difference between there and Pipe. True, its a beachbreak, but the hold downs are brutal.
Dream Tour? Search? What is so special about a big, shallow , closed out beachbreak? While I enjoy seeing some of the best surfers in the world, surf waves that the rest of us have to endure! With the whole world to "search", I was not impressed.
Its a serious wave. No doubt. Look at it this way, there is a whole company of people looking for a good location to have their competition. In this case, 'the search'. I find it hard to believe that these people would choose 'supertubos' to hold their contest, with the best surfers in the world, if it was a crappy wave.
when you say 'closeout' what do you mean? If by closeout you mean yawning barrels and perfect 10 rides and PRO SURFERS getting the shit beaten out of them (I'm sure Owen Wright had the skills to win this but like a few others he gut hurt just surfing this) ??? Class ic noob-kook talking shit about somewhere he has never surfed. Surfing ST's as 4 feet is heavy and pretty fucking scary mate - i suggest you give it a try first befoe you knock it. And as i think somone else has mentioned the whole point of the SEARCH is to bring breaks like this to the wider audiences' (ie people of limited imagination like you who only think of PIPE as the only solid wave) attention. get a grip.
I will join you and laugh together,
this people just talks, but probably
not many of them have surfed waves as heavy
as super tubos looks like[ on the monitor]
