Shadow cast by Point Conception and offshore islands© 2009 - mswMagicseaweed have launched a nearshore chart for SoCcal. With a resolution of 4 miles the all-new charts should allow users to skip the swell shadows which plague this coast and hook-up with the best the region has to offer.
Pictured above, the shadow cast by Point Conception and the offshore islands during a northwest swell is clearly visible. Generally, it is accepted that during these conditions Point Conception will block all of Santa Barbara, Ventura and North LA - whilst the islands soak up the rest of the swell heading toward the South Bay, Orange County, and San Diego. The new charts will allow users to peer through that generalisation and - at a glance - spot where will be firing.
