Long stretch of fun beachbreaks. Popular with kitesurfers. Probably the best facilities of any beach in Britain: surfshop, school, bistro, bar, hotel, camping and the Extreme Academy. Ample parking above the beach. In big swells and SW storms the Towan to Great Western stretch can be the only surfable option for miles. Hollow when on but tends to close-out. Horribly crowded when small in the summer. Harbour left can get good. Site of proposed artificial reef. Small car park at south end. Famous, fickle, heavy, big-wave spot. Rarely works as it needs to be perfectly clean and double overhead before it will break clear of the rocks. Rights are safer but the lefts can be good. Used to be empty until Chris Bertish surfed it huge in 2004 ' now it's mobbed. Big-wave surfers only. Savage rips, nasty rocks and long hold-downs. Park in the Little Fistral car park. Very consistent, beachbreak peak, that occasionally gets epic. Mainly rights that get hollow at lower tides. Likes W swell best. Usually a bit bigger than South Fistral. Always crowded and can be rippy when overhead. Site of the annual WQS event and many other contests throughout the year. Surf centre and all facilities on the beach. Pathetic amount of pay parking for the most famous beach in the country.
