O’Neill SA Gets Monster Nominations for Raw Courage Big Wave Awards
24 July, 2007 : - - Nominations are pouring in for O'Neill's Raw Courage Big Wave Awards, launched in May this year. Huge swells have been battering the Cape over the last three months and this has opened the floodgates with nominations coming in from various big wave sessions taking place around some of South Africa's premiere big wave spots.

The O'Neill Raw Courage Awards was launched to credit all South African big wave riders who are charging and pushing the boundaries and limits of big wave surfing in South Africa and abroad.
“All of the recent nominations received for the Raw Courage Awards just demonstrate the size and quality of big surf and surfing taking place in our South African waters. This event showcases the calibre of our big wave surfers, clearly demonstrating why they are becoming so highly respected and renowned globally," Chris Bertish, O’Neill Brand Manager.
O’Neill has also upped the prize money for the winning photographer or videographer who captures the winning waves in each division, to a minimum of R1000 for all divisions; however, the submissions need to be submitted within ten days of the session taking place.
The Raw Courage Award for the biggest paddle wave, fetches a first prize purse of over R25 000, which O’Neill Brand Manager Chris Bertish says he intends to double for the following year’s event. All submissions need to be sent to rawcourageawards@oneillsa.com and all details of the event, a gallery, as well as the rules and guidelines can be viewed on the website, which is constantly updated.
The O’Neill Surf Team has recently returned from "The Madagascar Mission" to explore the deepest darkest parts of the little documented, rustic Indian Ocean Island and they found plenty of new spots and empty quality waves and a whole lot more, check out the full journal with pictures online.
The website also provides regular updates on all O'Neill products, wetsuit range and details about upcoming events like the O’Neill Cold Water Classic. This event will take place in waves of consequence at one of seven core surf spots around Cape Town next month between August 23 to 26
