[PT-Music and Surf]
AS the Cornish summer draws to a close in September there will be one place and one place only to mark the occasion. A brand new, innovative and unique event is scheduled to take place in Sennen, Cornwall over the weekend of 4th/5th September. Oceandaze Surf and Music Festival is the brainchild of a consortium of Cornish event organisers who have a driven passion for surfing and music.
The campsite opens at midday on the afternoon of Friday 4th September with live bands and DJs taking to the stages from 6pm until the early hours.
All three marquees will incorporate a broad range of acoustic, alternative, punk, blues and rock sounds. Combine that with the Sir Vinyl of the Fattest dance marquee and there will be something for everyone.
Artists will include a host of local Cornish talent, some of whom are playing at some of the UK’s biggest events like The Drum Summit Project (Glastonbury and Notting Hill Carnival). Many of the acts have just performed at this years Boardmasters such as Steph Newton, San Pablo, Suite Noir, Joe Francis, Auction For The Promise Club and many more.
DJs will also be busting out alongside bands in The Sir Vinyl marquee with the worlds most glamorous club brand Hed Kandi providing some of their finest as well as the Hong Kong Ping Pong Club who had members performing at the recent Glade festival to a sell out crowd. We also have a special treat with local club organisers Love Riot providing us with their much sort after resident DJ, Ry Spenceley.
Along with all this great music and entertainment the award winning Blue Flag beach at Sennen Cove, which has a global recognition as one of world’s finest and cleanest beaches, will play host on the morning of Saturday 5th September to The National Trust hosted ‘West Kernows Greatest Crew’ surf competition, which will see some of the counties top surfers take to the seas.
The following crews from West Cornwall will be battling it out for the honour of being the greatest: Praa Sands, Porthleven, Penzance, St. Just, Lizard, Helston, Perranuthnoe, Gwithian and Sennen.
FHM’s High Street Honey’s winner 2009 Charlotte Thomson will be presenting the winners award.
Once the competition is over revelers can head back to festival and campsite for the awards ceremony, just a five-minute stroll from the beach and get back into party mode. Live music will start from midday and go onto the early hours of Sunday.
The campsite will have designated camping, parking, fresh water, toilets, food and drink stalls, first aid facilities, security, stewarding and a variety of entertainment throughout the event.
Cornish based international disaster relief charity Shelterbox are the chosen charity for the event and will have a presence at the festival.
