SHEET glass peaks thundered "welcome to winter", at the Pacific North West big wave boys for the first time this year.

Locals Keith Galbraith, George Desoto and Steve Harnick who have spent the last four years paddling here were joined by Shawn Thordarson and XXL nominee, Eric Akiskalian who's been surfing the PNW area for the past eight years.

"It was the first (PNW) Pacific Northwest big-wave swell of the 2011/2012 season and just like clockwork September through down a hefty groundswell." Said Eric "The swell was big enough to pull down the guns from the rafters and there were even a few small but fun size tow-ins for a good warm up session. September has traditionally been a month to remember with great waves and this swell held up to it expectations and past years of promise."
George Desoto, dropping into one of the best waves of the session. Hands down, he was on fire, pushing himself over the ledge.

Nice set of pics from a normally fairly localized piece of coast. Typical of the tow surfer set to show the world your spots and claim glory. The real big wave surfers were paddling and keeping a low profile I imagine?

Heavy dude! I surfed that swell and loved every minute! Props to the cold blooded, cold water surfers out challenging these waves when the only other guys out are the Coast Guard!
