IT'S ON, the Rip Curl Cup at Padang Padang. Thirty two of the world's best tube riders need only one day for Padang to breathe its hollow call. On 24 hours notice they're waiting on magicseaweed and Ripcurl to make the call.

Padang Padang is a funny old wave, up there with any wave in the world for heavy and round but it really needs a swell of consequence to get it going. Up until it's overhead it's just not Padang and then the magic happens.

Rip Curl has set aside a five-week waiting period to hold the “one-day, one-swell” event. The window will run from July 25th through Aug. 29th and the contest will be run entirely on the chosen day.

When contest directors see an ideal swell in the forecast, they will give the green light and the 32 competitors will have 24 hours to make it to Bali’s Bukit Peninsula.

Left -- the 32 gathered for the opening ceremony of the 2010 Rip Curl Cup, coming from as far away as England, Japan, Hawaii and New Zealand to draw their heats and find out who they would be pitted against.
