DAY one of the Volcom Pipeline Pro was worth the wait writes TransworldSurf's Justin Cote.

Conditions: 8-12 feet North/Northwest with the wind shifting into just the right direction (south/south-east) throughout the day.

At first light it was looking pretty sketchy with third reef Pipeline washing into second reef - before absolutely detonating on the first reef, “Man sized Pipeline,” according to Dave Wassel.

Kalani Chapman (pictured left) had the quote of the morning after dropping in on David Giddings,

“I wasn’t gonna let him (Giddings) paddle around me and get away with it, this is my wave and I had to let him know that.”

Amazingly, Kalani won the heat even with an interference that negated one of his scores. His luck would run out in his next heat, nevertheless, he still had the line...

That 13 year old Landon is a bad ass. A near death hold under, then grabbed another board to redeem himself. Pipe can kill. Pros only .
