Stormrider Description
Consistent beachbreak with good peaks, working during most tides. Best on small to medium swells.
Thriving surf scene in carpark and village. Good beach facilities with large carpark, showers, surf school and lifeguards. Busy in summer season. Several surf shops, bars and other shops close by. Campsite just down the road. Also quite close to city of Santander. Some pollution from Santander.

Local Knowledge
I lived in Santander from October to June last year and surfed Somo often. There are several peaks up and down the beach with the most competitive being around the rock and at Loredo. The wave breaks best on a 2-6 ft swell and holds up okay in light NE winds. It works better once the tide starts filling in a bit, low tide leads to lots of closeouts. The town is super chill and pretty empty from late October through May with a small crowd on the weekends. Localism not too bad, most guys are pretty friendly. Very scenic place to surf and several other good breaks around, easy bus/ferry connections to Santander. Really enjoyed surfing here.

This graph shows the percentage of days that had a ridable wind swell (7 seconds period or more) or groundswell (10 seconds period or more) of over 3ft. It also shows the dominant wind direction. Not all of these days will neccessarily give great surf, and very short lived wind swells or longer period secondary swells may produce surf not recorded, but it gives a clear idea of the seasonal trend and a rough guide to the chances of scoring something ridable.
