Quality, but fickle, lefthand boulder reef at the west end of West Strand, needs exact swell direction to work. Shallow and rocky so it's mid/high tide only. Considered one of the best waves in N. Ireland, crowded when on. NW-facing beach open to NW-N swells, consistent on the push, often crowded, especially in the summer. Portrush is Northern Ireland's premier tourist town popular with beachgoers, students, clubbers and more. Plenty of facilities, Troggs shop and a struggling sewerage system. Fast, hollow, French-style beachbreak peaks that rear into life on bigger swells. Protected from SW winds, which groom powerful peaks in front of the stream and an established right at the end of the promenade. Best at mid to high tide, punishing paddle-outs, rips and crowds when on.
