ALEX Marks founder of bluesnapper is a leader in an Eastern Oz speciality, the daily documentation of local surf culture.Surf photography is a difficult business with seemingly endless appeal and limited resources. But through embracing new media a few guys have made a name for themselves (see Uge Tan in Bondi) as this coast's modern heralds where local is everything and everything is local.
This tranche of new local spokesmen would traditionally be behind a camera full-time but employ a combination of print/digital and social to become the journalist, editor and publisher for a stretch of beach. They are up every morning, behind the lens for every swell, and are an equally well-known beach feature as the local hobo.
And who better to correspond about your local than someone who is local? Being a dab hand with the shutter is a prerequisite but by no means enough.
