The main reason for this beach being the most powerful on the stretch of coast is the 200ft deep Scripps Canyon which gathers swell along its edges and funnels it right here. It's not a break for in uninitiated.

This is half bull-shit...ANYONE CAN SURF BLACK'S! It isn't this big everyday and when it is if you can't surf well, most likely your not getting out there anyway! Nobody out there goes by the etiquette. People drop in all over the place and most of those people are ASSHOLES FROM LA JOLLA! There are Angry 50 year old dudes out there trying to catch everything that moves and if you happen to be in their way they are ready to have a fist fight, screaming at the whole line up,pounding their chests. The angry old men from La Jolla ruin Black's for everyone. They don't let anyone they don't know surf the reefs and then when Black's get good they go start shit there. ANYONE CAN SURF BLACK'S, ESPECIALLY ON A HEAD HIGH DAY AND HAVE FUN!
Hands down best break in san diego, of coarse its not always big and perfect but niether is the best breaks in the world ( pipe, bali, cloud break).. but its our peridise and you aspect the crouds you dont want to scratch and fight for every wave sit out back and take of deeeep on a bomber or shut the FUCK up please

Wow! Great set of pictures, I can just imagine living in that little pad on the hill and skating down the hill for a session, like that every night after a day, relaxing by the pool. Ah well reality beckons.
What a wonderfully considered and artistic collection of images, i'm so stoked on surfing and photography right now.......! Loved the guy running- looks like he's heavy on his left foot so maybe he doesnt surf anymore cos he blew out a knee.....?!? Shame its 2 foot, onshore, raining and 8 degrees in the water at the minute.... Did i mention its also dark. Thanks for sharing!
