ON hold, fog, not how it had been a few minutes ago. Low tide at the Quik Pro France, the swell was thumping behind a blanket of localised pea soup fog so thick they were making pillows out of it in the competitor's area and the event went into stasis.

After a five hour delay Round 4 saw Michel Bourez and Taylor Knox up against the ghost of Jeremy Flores (confirmed withdrawn through ligament injury) in the still contestable 3-5ft surf. And if you thought the day's promise gone, when Kelly/Medina & Ace hit to water trading full rotations in the first minute the Quik Pro was rudely back to form.

Due to Flores' unfortunate absenteeism, first and second would get into the quarter finals guaranteed, making it a race not to get third. Kelly beat them both to the showers as well as taking the heat with Medina in second.
