REUBYN Ash won round two of the elite surf tour, Relentless Energy Drink Super Series during a 24 hour window of perfect surf in Devon.

RESULTS:
1st - Reubyn Ash (UK)
2nd - Russell Winter (UK)
3rd - Jayce Robinson (UK)
4th - Toby Donachie (UK)

The event was the first ever pro-surfing event to be held at the famous Devon left, and conditions were perfect, the finals taking place in perfect 3-4 footers.

Tour Director, Dave Reed, couldn’t have asked for better conditions. “It was some of the most exciting surfing we’ve seen on a UK surf tour, and I would say it featured some of the highest performance surfing by a British surfer I’ve seen in a very long time.”

Competition Winner, Reubyn Ash, was similarly thrilled when receiving his award. “I didn’t realise how good the waves were, I’m going back in in a minute.”

The last leg of the tour will take place at Fistral beach, Cornwall, between the 7th and the 13th of November. Looking at the forecast maybe the 10th?

Dream on Dave Reed and your entourage. I'v surfed this place countless times and, judging by the usual crowd size, there will be hundreds of people that agree with me - these are some of the most pathetic waves I'v seen at Lynmouth and to be honest the standard of surfing isn't much better than I see on any given day. Rave on you lot with your silly contest vests and your ridiculously brief heats. You get so thrilled when you get to compete on a half decent wave, while the rest of the world spend hours at a time humbly and anonymously tearing the bollocks off much better waves than these.

Hate to knock it but gotta agree with Drew here. I've never seen Lynemouth but anyone can see these are far from perfect waves. And- watch this after watching some of the Ripcurl Pro highlights from SanFran- it all starts to look a bit slow-motion. The music doesn't help either.

And in the time it has taken you to post your hate-filled little rant someone has caught another wave. And another one. What i love about guys who have surfed Lynmouth " a bunch of times" is that you appear to think it gives you some kudos to criticise others - ask yourself what's better; surfing 3-4 feet lynnie or sitting on MSW spouting tripe about it? Ah? Do you see the difference? Having just come back from California where the waves and surfing are mindblowing and where got asked " there's surf in the UK?, isnt it too cold?" - its always nice to see some douchebag moaning about comp surfing in the UK- but how else will UK standards improve otherwise. Id be over the moon to see Reubs et al compete on the world tour- wouldnt you? Having surfed the best part of 3 times a day for 3 weeks on perfect rights id still be keen as mustard to have a crack at this wave on that day, if you are a surfer you always want more. So keep bashing the guys who are in the water whilst you cry over the video. I guarantee they are having more fun.

Only a holiday im afraid. If i had the choice id be enjoying the waves now rather than arguing over an average video of lynnie. If i was there id make sure i sent you a postcard.

I think its the way these lot go about it, someone is driving the structure in a way they think UK surfing should be running in order to progress. Q. why should UK surfing be forced to progress, why cant it naturally progress? it will become a much more palatable entity, rather than trying to emulate the Aussie/US way, the way it does at the moment and just ends up looking like its uglier weaker cousin. In my humble opinion i think this is a function of where surfing's epicentre is, or where its perceived to be ..i.e the SW of england, the attitude of surfing down there bears absolutely no resemblance to anywhere else in the UK/Eire, you can see this whenever these 'dudes' travel around the country making these wee movies that are 10% surf 90% music /posing/selling out. The reception they receive is usually negative..In comparison, for example, the movies coming from mickey smith are borne from a much more natural progression that has happened in Ireland and they are beautiful i think. I hope i can say the same about the whisky barrel movie when i get to see it.

Yeah sorry about the rant, I did sound a bit grumpy there didn't I. I don't mean to put a downer on Reubs talent or on the art of finding joy in average surf. I just didn't like the ugliness of the overhyped write-up. It was so obviously just commercial and I think it has shot itself in the foot by portraying English surfers as living in cloud cukoo land. There's a vid of Reubs at home last week on youtube. Thats the kind of thing that many of us have been surfing for hours at a time these past few weeks. I'm afraid that Lynmouth on the day of the contest was not much better than your average beachbreak, it was just that it was easier to decide to go left instead of right. I'm sure everybody had fun but I really don't think that disproportionate write up was anything to do with being high-on-life. Nuff said. I'm out there!

Beautiful, peaceful spot. Such a shame the view of Wales spoils it. This place is much nicer on a day with less visibility.

"Dude", I know, but it's light hearted banter, piss taking etc. that help us Brits maintain a healthy sense of national identity and cultural diversity.
