On Monday, September 14 at 5:30 p.m., Cox Sports (Cox Channel 3) will air the second episode of Brand X, a weekly series covering local action sports and athletes. This episode chronicles the local surfing scene, including a look back at the individuals who shaped the sport in Rhode Island.

Visit youtube.com/coxsports for a sneak peak at the episode.

Along with highlights of current surfers in the state, the show will also feature historical footage filmed in Newport and Narragansett in the 1960s and 70s.

Among those featured is Sid Abruzzi, owner of Water Brothers in Newport and one of the “godfathers” of surfing in Rhode Island. Also featured are several other personalities important to the local surfing scene, including Dave Levy, Mario Frade, Craig Knowles, Jamie Risser, and Tom Hogan.

Hogan, owner of Warmwinds Surf Shop, is featured in “Shop Talk,” a weekly segment that lets viewers know how to get involved in the local scene.

The surfing episode will re-air on Thursday at 11 p.m. and Sunday at 7 p.m. on Cox Channel 3. Like all episodes of Brand X, it will also be available via Cox On DEMAND.

Produced in conjunction with Kettlebottom Productions of Jamestown, Brand X includes features on motocross, surfing, skateboarding, kite surfing, shark fishing, and snowboarding.

Sorry boiz! Where's the footage of Whitey Ford (no, not hurler, but Warren's Point and NEngland's best legitimate barral rider!)Hank, Mark Lambert (first 10' wave at spot that bears his name, not 'cactus' in Surfer!) Porter, Chip Guenther (who, by the way shaped the first twin-fin in NE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!), Al Kelley and Denny O'Brien who were the first tow-in's at Cutty wow (behind lobster skiff after years of paddling mile off Goosewing!)??????????????????? The reason is kicking the hell out of the gansett' and newpert 'slugs' in intramural college contests and kicking them out of 'east-side' perfection! Oh, I digress- no footage because where still secret!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ps- keep the bibles n' beans the hell away from Breyton!
