Great for those who have already done a bit of surfing and now want to continue on there own, exploring all the local breaks that this side of Rio has to offer. Also good for those who are looking into buying there first board and want to try out a few different sizes and shapes before they make a purchase, or simply for the traveling surfer who doesn’t want the hassle of lugging board bags around the world.

Surf School Package

This is a perfect place to get into surfing within Rio, it’s for those who have never surfed before and also for whom have some surfing experience. Everyone will enjoy improving their technique with helpful guidance from our certified Instructors. We offer surf school packages for all levels from complete beginners, Intermediate ability and also to more a advanced surfer looking to gain a high performance and assist competitive surfers

The Hostel

With cosy Brazilian hammocks, a chill-out bar in the tropical garden and a big salon with DVD player, we turned our Rio Surf n Stay into a sanctuary for surfers and travelers. Six double bedrooms with private bathroom and two mixed dormitory rooms give you all the comfort you need between a beer in the bar and your next sunrise surf session.

The Dorms

The Blue Wave Dorm

Sand Dune - The Sand Dune offers A/C has optional for the hot summer days, so you can relax and enjoy your sleep.
Blue Wave - This room offers an extra single bed, to nicely accommodate three people.
Recreio Sunset - A spacious room that offers a nice front yard view, so you can enjoy the nature surrounding the house.
Green Barrel - The Green Barrel provides as optional A/C for the hot nights. It also has an extra bunk-bed in to accommodate groups up to 4 people.

All rooms have a private bathroom, ceiling fans, cabinets and nice comfortable double beds with linen, towels and soap. For hot summer nights, two rooms have air conditioning as optional.

Basic dorm “Ressaca” (which means ”hangover”) - A six bed mixed dorm to accommodate travelers on a budget, located in the bottom floor next to all communal areas, with 2 ceiling fans, bed linen and towels for rent if wanted.
Comfortable dorm “Surf Shack” - A six bed mixed dorm on the top floor of the house opening out to a big balcony with hammocks to relax and enjoy the surrounding nature. This room has a speed controlled ceiling fan, cabinets and lockers, with linen and towels on request. Here you will be staying if you’re going for our “surf camp package”.

The Area

The Rio Surf n Stay surf camp is located on a coastal line that starts from Barra da Tijuca and goes up to Barra de Guaratiba. This area is called the West Zone and offers many different surf beaches with an uncountable amount of sand bars, offering empty line-ups on many occasions.

Some of the highlight spots are the isolated beaches of Prainha and Grumari, both with amazing jungle mountain backdrop and civilization seemingly far away. Semi-secret spots are located in the area as well, and with the right conditions they offer really fun waves with small barrels and sections to smash the lip. Some of these spots are ranked as the best and most consistent surf beaches in Rio de Janeiro and yearly host Men’s and Women’s World Circuit Tour (WCT), with the world’s top 44 surfers competing against each other.

Surf Spots

The west zone beaches offer the best and most consistent options for surfing, with many beaches facing different directions to pick up all swells and wind directions.

Canto do Recreio is a break that offers a good long and fast right off the sand bank next to Pontal Island, with a rip close to the rock that makes very easy access and a fun easier wave going left into the rip. Weekends are fill with local kids and big grouped surf schools but week days are less crowded.

The neighboring beach Macumba, offers perfect conditions for long boarders, fun boarders, fish and retro board lovers, keeping the beginners and intermediate surfers the happiest surfers on this spot. When the storm swells hit Rio this beach holds the best, once the winds swap to off shore, it cleans up the waves providing good formation and top quality waves for the advanced and intermediate surfers, creating a spectacular view to watch from the beach front kiosk. Sunset surf sessions are amazing here and will leave you with a unforgettable traveling moment.

Behind the next mountain, separated by a steep and bent road following the coast line, is the hidden and “untouched” reserved beaches of Prainha and Grumari. Both of them compose a stunning scenario that can be called the eco sanctuary of Rio surfers. Its holds all types of waves with nice sporty people atmosphere, surrounding this Environmental Protected Area where no buildings are allowed and green predominates.
