Rise is an independent production from UK-based photographer, Lewis Arnold and surfers Jesse and Owain Davies; documenting the latest surf voyage of an independent group of core surfers in search of big, perfect waves, way off the beaten track in Europe and beyond.
A quality movie for the soul-surfer in some of us. If slash and burn is your thing then look away now or be prepared that
Rise might adversely affect your perspective. Deliberately down-tempo the movie's music has somewhat divided our critics, appealing to most and but leaving others just a bit deflated.
When Rise arrived we put it on and it seemed quite slow, but it had realism, just your average surfers surfing some great waves.Sharolyn Croton
Soundtrack excluded, the reviewers almost in unison acclaimed Rise for capturing the simple beauty of surfing, peering behind the hype, exposing the stoke, and with it the reason for our sport's enduring popularity. The film's greatest accomplishment is capturing the essense of why you get into a wet lump of neoprene at 6am.
Rise manages to portray beautifully the somewhat cold and murky soul of underground British surfing, away from the popping bulbs and the tourist-clad beaches.Ben Jones
