[PT-Sharolyn Croton's Review]
Sharolyn Croton
I have surfed since I was 15 yrs old starting out when there weren't so many surfer girls around, my knowledge of surfing and what women want from surfing and the kit required is good, I ride a short board 6'2" - 6'3" I like surfing waves between 2-5ft and have travelled to many great surfing spots such as Tahiti, Fiji, and Australia were I lived for a few years, also I enjoy surfing many of N.Zs great waves, and enjoy taking video footage of surfing.

Rise documents the latest surf voyage of an independent group of core surfers in search of big, perfect waves, way off the beaten track in Europe and beyond. Because there's no commentary, you aren't sure of the locations, that could be a good thing? We're not sure? Some you may however know?

We had just finished watching a DVD that was explosive, with all the new school surfers pulling big airs and a fast upbeat soundtrack, so when Rise arrived we put it on and it seemed quite slow, but it had realism, just your average surfers, surfing some great waves. If you don’t like all those DVDs with all that upbeat music and you like a more laid back approach then you'll love Rise. It has some great acoustic tunes - really relaxed and mellow - we do enjoy this type of music but did think it would have been better with a more eclectic selection - there didn’t seem to be any intensity about it - even in sections where the waves were worthy of some more upbeat tunes.
